Thanksgiving...
Well, in 90 minutes I'll be on the road...driving straight up the Great Central Valley of California...final destination=534 miles away (I think...).
Last night I finally called a childhood friend of mine, who I hadn't talked to since graduation. For those who have known me since then, it was Casey. I got his numbers from his best-friend in June, but hadn't called him until last night. He was stunned, to say the least.
"Is Casey there?"
"This is Casey..."
"Hi Casey--this is Lesa Close."
"What the...?" (stunned)
"I'm sure that I'm the last person on earth you ever expected to hear from!"
"Yeah! How have you been?"
Etc.
Casey and I were fierce rivals from 3rd grade on. Whether it was in band, G.A.T.E., or just in the classroom (we had at least one class together all the way through 12th grade)...spelling bees, geography bees, etc. (I smoked him on all the geography bees, we tied in spelling bee wins), Casey is the one who constantly (and unknowingly) pushed me to do my best. Our senior year is when we actually began becoming friends, and we didn't "fight like an old married couple"--which is a phrase we heard SO often!! Seriously!
We are going to try to meet up this weekend, since we'll both be home. It will be interesting, to say the least. He sounded so different on the phone--I guess that shows how much we've both grown up since high school. This is not a romantic interest at all, just in case it sounds that way.
Anyway...so yeah. I'm going to see Casey this weekend, and I hope to see some snow as well. Getting some homework done would be nice, since I have 5 papers due between December 2-7.
Another note, my brother might be enlisting in the United States Army today...he is in Sacramento, doing his physical...just pray that he makes a wise decision...I don't really want him to go, obviously, but may the Lord's will be done!
May your Thanksgiving be a special time, filled with love and great FOOD. :) Remember all the ways that the Lord has blessed you, and celebrate all that you are grateful for...
